Visa Legalization Procedure

To visit Kazakhstan foreign citizens must obtain a Kazakhstani visa prior to entering the country. Visa applications are available at the Kazakhstani Embassy in your country. Should there be no Kazakhstani Embassy in your country, you can apply to the Kazakhstani Embassy in the neighboring country. The cost of visa varies and it takes about 2 weeks to process.

The citizens of the Commonwealth of Independent States are allowed to stay in the country up to 3 months with no visa required. The only exception is Turkmenistan. The citizens of Mongolia are allowed to stay in Kazakhstan for 2 months, Turkey 1 month – no visa required. Citizens of the rest of the countries need to obtain visa.

Note that to enter the country you need to have got a valid passport, Kazakhstani visa, tickets and documents for return or onward travel.

Customs declaration:

On arrival in Kazakhstan foreign citizens have to fill out a customs declaration. Adult foreign citizens (16-year old and older) receive a migration card on entering Kazakhstan. Keep the migration card safe throughout your stay in Kazakhstan and submit it to the authorized body on leaving.

OVIR registration

If you plan to stay for more than three days you will need an OVIR registration stamp which can be obtained at the Ministry of Internal Affairs, OVIR Department, Visa and Registration Section. It is necessary to obtain an OVIR stamp within three days of your arrival in Kazakhstan. If you do not obtain the required stamp in your passport, you will be required to pay a penalty fee at the airport upon your departure.

Please contact the Embassy of Kazakhstan in your country for more detailed information on entry and travel requirements.
