Arts and Crafts

“Ceramic wares” A.Rysbayev
The medieval towns’ economy boosted the development of a variety of crafts. Among them there were pottery, glass-making and blowing, tailoring, carpet weaving, blacksmith’s works, jeweler’s art, etc. Clay was used to shape crockery and lamps. Glass was used to manufacture and embellish kitchen ware and clothes. Blacksmith’s work enjoyed the highest popularity with population at that time due to the skillful smiths who hammered necessary utensils, arms, and shoed horses
The tailors sewed and embroidered clothes, while woodworkers created real masterpiece, like this Torsyk.

“Torsyk” V.Korsunov

Jeweler’s arts

Jewelers handmade gold and silver ware: rings, bracelets, earrings, brooches, and clasps. The favorite metal of Kazakh jewelers is silver. Every Kazakh girl/woman was due to have and wear silver trappings.

Today the jeweler’s art and services keep being in demand in Kazakhstan. Tailors decorate national outfits with silver and golden items.

Many thanks to Timur Boutique of National Souvenirs (# 139), located in the Central Department store and Raushan Kurmangaliyeva for her kind support and permission to hold a photosession in the boutique.
